Events highlight Safe Boating Week

Advertiser Staff

In conjunction with National Safe Boating Week (May 17-23), the Pier 35 Marine Center will hold an open house.

The event, at 965-B North Nimitz, is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 17.

Some of the events and exhibits include:

• A half-boat display by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary that will demonstrate all safety equipment required on a sportfishing boat.

• Free food and refreshments and prize drawings throughout the day.

There are several things people can do to ensure boating safety, said Ruth Wood, BoatU.S. Foundation president.

"A great way to start is to encourage others to wear a life jacket by wearing your own," she said.

BOAT SHOW

• Ko Olina to host event: The Ko Olina Resort and Marina is the site of the Hawai'i Boat Show and Ocean Expo.

The event is May 17 and 18, running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition to the 80 exhibitors expected, there also will be activities for children and adults.
