Kaua'i's Wise takes lead in girls state golf

Kaua'i High's Lehua Wise shot par-70 for a one-stroke lead after the first round of the David S. Ishii Foundation Girls State Golf Championships at Waikoloa Beach Course on the Big Island.

Hilo of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation leads the tournament at 111-over 221 (best three of four scores). Waiakea, also of the BIIF, is second at 232, followed by Kaua'i (235), and Punahou and Baldwin (tied at 240). Waiakea is the defending champion.

Kira-Ann Murashige of Hilo shot a 71, followed by Whitney Ueno of Hilo (74) and Mari Chu of Kamehameha and Amanda Wilson of Waiakea (75s).

The final round begins at 7 a.m. today.
