Schools that will (and won't) benefit

 •  State's budget omits 77 school projects

These lists show how legislators influenced the school construction budget and which schools stand to benefit — or lose out — as a result.

School projects granted money by the Legislature that do not appear on the Department of Education's priority list:

  • Campbell High: electrical system upgrade, $1.15 million
  • Fern Elementary: roof replacement of three buildings, $235,000
  • Hana High & Elementary: classroom building, $3 million
  • He'eia Elementary: expansion of parking lot, $180,000
  • Highlands Intermediate: extension of music building, $704,000
  • Honowai Elementary: air conditioning for library, $200,000
  • Kahuku High: renovations, $400,000
  • Kaimuki High: science center and athletic field restrooms, $463,000
  • Kalihi-Waena Elementary: reroofing, $300,000
  • Kapalama Elementary: additional parking stalls, $150,000
  • Kawananakoa Middle: renovate or expand music building, $350,000
  • Kilauea Elementary: plans and design for cafeteria, $300,000
  • Lahainaluna High: athletic locker room, $2 million
  • Leilehua High: convert room for technology center, $251,000
  • Manoa Elementary: upgrade electrical system, $300,000
  • Moanalua Elementary: classroom building, $800,000
  • Nanakuli IV Elementary: design and construction, $450,000
  • Pearl City Elementary: air conditioning in Building C, $500,000
  • Pearl Ridge Elementary: expansion of cafeteria, $950,000
  • McKinley High: expansion of cafeteria, $320,000
  • Salt Lake Elementary: renovate building to create more classrooms, $520,000
  • Shafter Elementary: additional parking stalls, $90,000
  • Waiakea High: all-weather track-and-field improvements, $2.8 million
  • Waikele Elementary: expansion of parking lot, $125,000
  • Waimea Middle: design and planning for new school, $2 million
  • Washington Middle: replacement of bell system, $170,000
  • Leilehua High: classroom building, $1 million
  • Waipahu Intermediate: cafeteria, site improvements, $3.2 million


Schools with financed projects that appear on both the state and the DOE lists:

  • Maui Lani Elementary: first and second increments, $13 million in FY 04 and $12 million FY 05
  • Waipahu High: classroom building, $4.85 million
  • Hana High & Elementary: classroom building, $3 million
  • Wai'anae High: eight-classroom building, $4.9 million
  • Ocean Pointe Elementary: first and second increments, $13 million in FY 05
  • Nanakuli High: design of classroom building, $300,000
  • Mililani High: design for classroom building, $360,000
  • Waimea High: new locker room, $800,000 (DOE wants a new gymnasium between FY 07 and FY 08)
  • Kilauea Elementary: plan and design of new cafeteria, $300,000
  • Roosevelt High: renovation and air conditioning for building A, $3 million
  • Pahoa High: design for a new gymnasium, $650,000
