Two high school newspapers tie for No. 1

Farrington High School and Sacred Hearts Academy tied for the Overall State Award in the 34th Hawai'i State High School Journalism Awards competition.

Farrington's publication The Governor, which also won top honors in 2001 and 2002, has been judged Hawai'i's top high school newspaper five of the past six years. The Governor this year also won best-in-state awards for feature writing, sports writing and layout.

Pauline Perez is editor in chief of The Governor. Ellen Manago is its adviser.

Sacred Hearts Academy's Ka Leo also won top honors in 2000. Celia Downes is its editor in chief and Gaylen Isaacs is the adviser.
