Kamehameha baseball owns state's No. 1 seed

Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Kamehameha was awarded the top seed in this week's Wally Yonamine Foundation State Baseball Championship Tournament.

The Warriors, who lost to Mid-Pacific in last year's championship game, compiled a 16-3 record in league play.

O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Kailua (12-1) was awarded the No. 2 seed, followed by Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin (17-3) and Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Waiakea (12-0), the lone unbeaten team in the field.

The four seeded teams receive byes in the first round, which begins Wednesday at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.

The tournament schedule:

Wednesday

    Game 1 — Roosevelt (9-4) vs. Hilo (9-3), 11:30 a.m.
    Game 2 — Kalaheo (7-7) vs. Kaua'i (9-4), 2 p.m.
    Game 3 — Wai'anae (9-4) vs. Mid-Pacific (12-8-1), 4:30 p.m.
    Game 4 — Maui (17-4) vs. 'Aiea (12-1), 7 p.m.

Thursday

    Game 5 — Losers of Games 2 and 4, 9 a.m.
    Game 6 — Winner of Game 1 vs. Kailua (12-1), 11:30 a.m.
    Game 7 — Winner of Game 4 vs. Waiakea (12-0), 2 p.m.
    Game 8 — Winner of Game 2 vs. Kamehameha (16-3), 4:30 p.m
    Game 9 — Winner of Game 3 vs. Baldwin (17-3), 7 p.m.

Friday

    Game 10 — Losers of Games 1 and 3, 9:30 a.m.
    Game 11 — Losers of Games 7 and 8, noon.
    Game 12 — Losers of Games 6 and 9, 2:30 p.m.
    Game 13 — Winners of Games 6 and 9, 5 p.m.
    Game 14 — Winners of Games 7 and 8, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday

    Game 15 — Winners of Games 5 and 10, noon.
    Game 16 — Winners of Games 11 and 12, 2:30 p.m.
    Game 17 — Losers of Games 13 and 14, 5 p.m.
    Game 18 — Winners of Games 13 and 14, 8 p.m.

Admission: Adults $7, students kindergarten through 12th grade $5.

Parking: free.
