Kahuku, Farrington, McKinley, Lahainaluna advance

Kahuku held off defending state champion Kamehameha, 59-54, tonight before 1,081 basketball fans at the University of Hawai'i's Stan Sheriff Center.

Kahuku (12-2) will play No. 3 seed Konawaena (13-0) at 5 p.m. tomorrow in the Hawaiian Airlines State Championship quarterfinals.

In other first-round games today, Farrington routed Waimea 50-25, McKinley stopped Kealahehe 69-52 and Lahainaluna defeated Maryknoll 53-43.

The Red Raiders prevailed last night despite a spectacular performance by the Warriors' Megan Ching, who finished with a game-high 31 points and four steals. Kahuku, which led almost the entire game, was led by Latoya Wily's 19 points and seven rebounds.
