Japan Airlines extends cuts

Japan Airlines, which cut flights from Tokyo to Honolulu in April and May, says it will extend the reductions through August because of the SARS epidemic.
JAL had planned to fly 14 times per week between Tokyo and Honolulu beginning June 1 but now will make only one trip daily. During the peak summer season, July 14 to Aug. 31, the airline will go from four daily flights to three.
Atlanta flight sells for $562
Delta Air Lines is offering a $562 round-trip fare for its revived nonstop flight between Honolulu and Atlanta.
The fare is valid for tickets purchased by June 2 for travel by Nov. 15, requires a 21-day advance purchase and covers travel from Honolulu to Atlanta Tuesday through Thursday. Seats are limited and the airline may apply other conditions.
Mac nut grower reports losses
Big Island macadamia nut grower ML Macadamia Orchards lost $143,000 in the first quarter of 2003.
The company said the losses were a result of the "usual timing of the annual macadamia crop," which leads to a seasonal ebbing of productivity in the early part of the year.
ML Macadamia Orchards had revenues of $2.3 million for the quarter, down from $2.6 million in first-quarter 2002.
Barnwell says earnings up
Barnwell Industries Inc., a Honolulu-based oil exploration firm, said yesterday it had net earnings of $300,000, or 22 cents per share, in the three months ended March 31, compared with a net loss of $210,000, or 16 cents per share, a year earlier.
