'Late Night' episode turned into clay

If you tune in to "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" tonight on NBC, you may notice that the host looks a little different. The shock of red hair that often looks sculpted will be — literally. The episode is being done entirely in clay animation figures.

Viewers tuning will see a clay opening, clay monologue, clay guests — even a clay Mr. T in one of O'Brien's "Year 2000" sketches. It should go without saying that no late-night show has tried such a stunt before.

"This may be the best show we've ever done — in clay," O'Brien deadpans.

Thursday's 11: 37 p.m. show is a repeat, of sorts, of an October episode with Johnny Knox-ville, Rich-ard Lewis and David Bowie.

Historic Manoa opens doors to public

When Malama o Manoa held its last walking tour in 2000, nearly 400 people arrived to catch a glimpse of the architecture of O'ahu's historic neighborhood.

This year's event, a benefit for the nonprofit group, gives Manoa fans another chance to see more than 60 homes (28 listed on the state Register of Historic Properties). The $25 two-mile walking tour ends with lemonade on the veranda at College Hills, the home of University of Hawai'i President Evan Dobelle.

Registration forms for Sunday morning's event are available at Starbucks Manoa, at www.malamaomanoa.org/2003walktour.html or by calling 988-7622, 947-7400 or 946-1559.

Modern designs join antique venue

Pacific Orient Traders, the antique storeroom at 560 N. Nimitz Highway, is having a trunk show from 6 to 9 tonight. Jewelry designer Heather Harrison shows vintage jewelry (right) worn by celebs such as Lucy Liu and Jennifer Anniston, while Dianne Cacchione presents "Meditations," Zen-inspired gilded Buddhas on handmade paper. To reserve a spot at the reception, call 531-3774.
