Big Island man sentenced to 10 years for dealing 'ice'

Advertiser Staff

Big Island resident Joseph Felix, 30, has been sentenced by federal Judge David Ezra to 10 years in prison after being convicted of possessing methamphetamine, or "ice," with the intent to distribute and for having a gun while being an unlawful user of drugs.

Ed Kubo, U.S. attorney for Hawai'i, said the case against Felix was brought under the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, which aims to reduce gun violence. Kubo said prosecution of people who have firearms while abusing methamphetamine is a priority because of the risk of harm involving innocent third parties.
