Junior deadline coming up

The deadline for the Westfield Junior PGA Aloha Championship is June 2. The tournament will be June 12-13 at Turtle Bay Resort.

Entry forms are available at courses, by calling the Aloha Section PGA (593-2230) or from westfieldgroupfoundation.com.

Boys and girls compete in three age divisions (12-under, 13-15, 16-17). Qualifiers from the two older divisions represent the section at the 2003 Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 16-19, in Ohio. Section winners receive air fare, meals and lodging.


U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying

Qualifying for the 2003 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Po'ipu Bay Golf Course on Kaua'i, June 23 and 24. The Junior Amateur Championship will be played July 21-26 at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Md.

Entries for the championship must be received by the United States Golf Association by June 4. Cost is $20. The championship is for amateurs age 17 and under.

To obtain an entry application, call the USGA at (908) 234-2300 or download an entry from the USGA at usga.org. Entrants must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4.


Mixed plate tournament set

The Club at Hokuli'a on the Big Island will be the site of the inaugural Mixed Plate tournament to benefit the Hawai'i State Junior Golf Association. It will be June 8 at 10 a.m.

The event brings together 30 of the state's best juniors to play with 30 Aloha Section PGA members and 60 business leaders.

Cost for adult amateurs is $500. Special room rates are available.

Ito, Gee scholarships

The Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin are sponsoring two $1,500 college scholarships to honor former sportswriters Monte Ito and Bill Gee. Hawai'i high school seniors and Hawai'i high school graduates with at least one year of college remaining are eligible.

The scholarships will recognize "outstanding achievements or potential in journalism and golf, and an appreciation of both."

Deadline to turn in entries is June 6. For entry forms, call Ann Miller (525-8043) or Bill Bachran (523-7888).
