WAILUKU, Maui — Kevin Fujii's one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored pinch runner Ha'aeo Shea-Miyamoto to give Roosevelt a 4-3 victory yesterday over Baldwin in a consolation game of the Wally Yonamine Foundation State Baseball Championship.

The Rough Riders play 'Aiea for fifth place today at Ichiro "Iron" Maehara Stadium.

In the eighth, Cameron Kimura reached safely on a two-base throwing error by shortstop Gered Mochizuki. After Joshua Danz flied out to right, Fujii singled on a 1-1 pitch off Jeff Kajiwara, who pitched the distance for the Bears.

Mochizuki tied the game in the top of the fourth with a two-run triple to center. He also had a one out triple in the sixth and scored on catcher Fujii's pick-off throwing error to third to give Baldwin a 3-2 lead.

But the Rough Riders tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Danz led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a ground out to second and scored when left fielder JJ Eno could not hold on to a fly ball toward the foul line off the bat of Brandon Morimoto.

Ransen Tamai pitched four innings of relief of starter Ricky Eusebio. Tamai allowed a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts to get credit for the win.

'Aiea 5, Kaua'i 2

Taylor Watanabe's two-run single in a three-run second inning gave Na Ali'i a lead they would not relinquish.

Ramon Aquino allowed two runs in four innings and Sean Ha'o added three scoreless innings of relief for the save.

Kaua'i took a 1-0 lead in the first when Alec Reichle led off with a double, took third on a ground out to second and scored on a ground out to shortstop.

But 'Aiea came back with three in the top of the second when starter Jake Oketani hit three batters in the inning. Two scored on Watanabe's single and the third on Jonathan Sakurai's single.

Na Ali'i added two more in the third on RBI singles by James Miyashiro and Dustin Grace.

Hilo 4, Wai'anae 1

Jared Taise batted 3-for-3 and pitched a six-hitter to lead the Vikings into today's consolation championship against Maui.

Taise allowed three walks with two strikeouts in pitching the distance for Hilo.

Thursday's late game

Pinch hitter Grant Yamaguchi's three-run double scored the go-ahead runs in a six-run fifth inning to propel defending state champion Mid-Pacific from a 5-1 deficit and into last night's semifinal with a 9-6 victory over Baldwin.

The third-seeded Bears tagged MPI starter Conan Young for three runs in the first inning.

Baldwin added two unearned runs in the second on JJ Enos' RBI double and Nishiyama's run-scoring single to right to make it 5-0.

The Owls made it 5-1 in the third on Jonathan Hee's RBI single.

MPI then sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run fifth inning, sparked by a two-run single by Randy Rundgren and Yamaguchi's three-run double for a 7-5 lead.
