Fallen poles cut Makaha power

About 5,000 Makaha residents were without power for most of the day today because of two downed power lines, Hawaiian Electric Co. said.
Electric crews repaired one line after a single-vehicle accident early in the morning. Police had no record of the accident.
As crews were repairing the line, a second power line went out at about 3 p.m. because of a failed connection between two wires, said Bruce Benson, electric company spokesman.
Customers were affected on Wai'anae Valley Road to Jade Street along Farrington Highway, Benson said. Crews restored the power by 4:30 p.m.
