FUN HOUSE
Face 'dots' add to son's smile

Advertiser Staff

I was taking my 4-year old son, Grant, to preschool on the bus one day. As it was sunny that morning, he was watching the reflection of his face in the window. He turned to me and asked, "Mom, what are those dots on my face?"

Grant has freckles. I could sense the other passengers turning and listening for my response. Again, he asked me, "Mom, did you hear me? What are those dots on my face for?"

I had to think of a quick answer, but telling him they were freckles would not be enough for him. I smiled and said, "God gave those to you."

"Why?"

Again, I looked around and saw heads leaning our way.

"Why, Mom, did God put those dots on my face?"

I told Grant, "Because you are extra special and it's his way of decorating your face to help you smile."

It seemed the correct answer, as he practiced smiling in the sunny reflection of the bus window.
