WAILUKU, Maui — The Kahi Kamali'i childcare center for low-income families is expected to open next month at the Cameron Center in Wailuku. The 4,272-square-foot facility will provide care for 40 infants and toddlers, and will be operated by the federal Head Start program, administered locally by Maui Economic Opportunity Inc.

The $1.1 million in construction costs was paid for by government and private grants and donations. A blessing for Kahi Kamali'i was held recently to commemorate the Cameron Center's 30th anniversary.
