Marine's death still mystery

Honolulu police today have no suspects in the slaying of a Marine sergeant, who was due to be discharged Friday.

The body of the 24-year-old man, whose name has not been released by the medical examiner's office, washed ashore Saturday on Coconut Island in Kane'ohe Bay at 8:45 a.m. The man, a communications specialist, had been shot at least two or possibly three times in the head and maybe once or twice in the arm, police said.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death was performed today. Police estimate the body may have been in the water two or three days. Pinpointing a time of death will be a key factor for homicide detectives, who are being assisted by Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents.
