Advertiser Staff and News Services

Dean Wilson, a 33-year-old PGA rookie who was raised in Kane'ohe, will be part of an historic golf group at this weekend's Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.

In the first two rounds Thursday and Friday, Wilson and rookie Aaron Barber will be playing with Annika Sorenstam, the first woman to compete on the PGA Tour in 58 years. Their names were drawn out of the third category of players reserved for those who haven't won or finished in he top 125 on the money list.

Wilson is a Castle High graduate who went on to compete at Brigham Young University. After eight attempts, he finished high enough in qualifying school to earn 25 PGA Tour exemptions this year.

Wilson has competed in 12 event this year, earning $441,440. His best finish was a sixth-place tie in the Chrysler Classic of Tucson, when he shot a 14-under 274.

Wilson played on the Japan Tour the past two years, winning six times.

"It will be a unique experience and one that I think I'll be able to learn from," he said at news conference. He wore a green button on his shirt that said "Go Annika."

Even though the Brigham Young University graduate has two top-10 PGA Tour finishes this year, he said losing to Sorenstam or Barber or any of the other golfers in the field is a possibility.

"Anybody can beat me when I play bad," he said.
