HONOLULU

Tuberculosis clinic to reopen

The Tuberculosis Control Program at Lanakila Health Center will reopen May 27 after being closed for renovations.

The Lanakila TB Clinic, 1700 Lanakila Ave. in Kalihi, closed in February 2002.

Temporary clinics in the Dillingham Shopping Plaza and at Leahi Hospital provided services during the renovation but will be closed once the Lanakila clinic reopens. No TB services are available this week while equipment is being moved.

Divorce law topic of seminar

The Family Court of the Honolulu Circuit Court will sponsor a free seminar, "Divorce Law in Hawai'i," from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Hawai'i Supreme Court conference room.

William C. Darrah, who has practiced divorce law in Hawai'i for more than 25 years, will provide an overview of custody and visitation, division of property, child support, alimony and other matters relating to divorce.

Participants also will learn how the legal process works and where to get Family Court divorce forms and how to use them. For information, call 539-4448.


Endowment set up at HCC

An endowment has been established at Honolulu Community College to help non-native English speakers prepare for the nursing licensure exams.

The $30,000 endowment is financed by former State Rep. Connie Chun in honor of her late husband, Dr. H.H. "Hunky" Chun, a medical leader and athlete.

The noncredit training program will be administered by HCC but will be accessible at designated sites through the community college system.

Applicants must be Hawai'i residents for at least a year before application.


ACLU to honor student activist

The American Civil Liberties Union is sponsoring a Hawai'i Youth Award that includes a $1,000 prize for a high-school student who has taken action to promote civil liberties.

Candidates can be from public or private schools and must have taken actions between Dec. 15, 2001, and Dec. 15, 2002, such as setting up forums to discuss issues like the First Amendment, student rights in school policy, or public policy.

Healthcare workshops set

Manakai O Malama Integrative Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center will present a free series of interactive workshops on combining traditional healing arts with modern medicine on women's health.

The first session will be on Chinese medicine and acupuncture at 7 p.m. May 28 at the Honolulu Club Building, 932 Ward Ave., sixth floor. Among the topics: what to do about difficult menstrual periods and urinary tract infections; headaches, stress, poor digestion; and anxieties about approaching meno-pause.

Workshops covering other topics are scheduled for June 25 and July 30. For more information, call 535-5555.
