The Rock, pictured, wears one. So does Kevin Bacon, Barry Bonds, Mandy Moore and Anastacia. The cuff-style bands are inscribed with an AIDS ribbon and "Until There's A Cure."

The bracelets, reminiscent of the MIA/POW bands worn during the Vietnam era, are meant to raise awareness and symbolize a bridge uniting people to fight HIV and AIDS. They come in six styles and four sizes, and range from $20 for copper to $400 for 14k gold.

In Hawai'i, the cuffs are available at The Body Shop, Kenneth Cole, Tower Records and Ben Bridge Jewelers.

Order on the Web at www.until.org or call (800) 888-6845.

Gordon Biersch downs wallet woes

Here's something to raise a glass to in these tough economic times: $1 beers.

Gordon Biersch Brewery at Aloha Tower is throwing a party tonight, its annual bash to say "aloha" and "mahalo" to the local community. So when the beer bell rings about 8:30 p.m., the tap flows until midnight with $1 beers.

Entertainment includes country-western personality Charlie Garrett from 8 p.m., followed by the country-rock and modern-rock sounds of Nueva Vida and special guest Anita Hall. No cover charge. Be 21 or older.

Neiman Marcus catches a local wave

Hawai'i- and surf-related themes are cropping up everywhere. In the latest nod to the trendiness of all things island, Neiman Marcus features Hawai'i locations, models and surf memorabilia throughout its "Essentials" catalog.

The cover features a model dancing hula with a plumeria lei and 'uli 'uli, while pages 2 and 3 show models in streetwear carrying surfboards and leaning on woodies with local surfers all around them. Lauhala mats, koa paddles and kitschy tikis are sprinkled across the layouts. One poor model is propped up on a pile of pineapples in the field. Ow.
