Tonight's Must-See
"The Kid Stays in the Picture" (2002), 6 p.m., HBO. Robert Evans' life sprawls across Hollywood like an epic movie. He was a minor actor who became a major mogul. He brought Paramount to the brink of extinction then brought it back with "Love Story," "The Godfather" and more. He was a handsome, leading-man type. He dated many beautiful women, married Ali
MacGraw, then lost her to Steve McQueen. He triumphed big, then failed big. The troubles involved everything from cocaine to failed movies. Evans put all of that into his 1994 autobiography. That was superbly filmed by Brett Morgen and Nanette Burstein, in a fascinating film that reflects old Hollywood.
"Divas Duets," 3 (live) and 5 p.m. (repeat), VH1. Some great voices combine in this special hosted by Queen Latifah. They include Whitney Houston, Jewel, Mary J. Blige, Ashanti, Chaka Khan and more.
Of Note
"NBA Shootaround," 2 p.m., and playoff game, 2:30 p.m., ABC. Now that the regular season has finished, ABC can add pro basketball to its prime-time mix. First is a special that includes the news on which team will draft first, next month; then it's game time.
"Steve Harvey's Los Angeles," 3 p.m., Travel Channel. Harvey, who moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles, provides an offbeat and witty look at his adopted home.
"SUMMER MUSIC MANIA," 7 p.m., Fox. Maybe we should think of this as pre-diva time, with music by Kelly Clarkson and Monica. Other performers include Brian Mc-Knight, the rapper Fabolous, Smash Mouth, Ziggy Marley and Alice Cooper.
"Friends," 7 p.m., NBC. When Mike moves in with Phoebe, she thinks marriage might be ahead.
"Frasier," 8:30 p.m., NBC. Lilith turns emotional at her son's bar mitzvah and Frasier delivers a speech in Klingon.
"ER," 9 p.m., NBC. After violence, Carter takes new security measures.
