HPU staying downtown

Advertiser Staff

Hawai'i Pacific University has reaffirmed commitment to its downtown Honolulu site by renewing several long-term leases in buildings on Fort Street Mall, including renewal of an eight-year lease for more than 57,000 square feet of space in the Model Progress/HPU Buildings.

HPU also has expanded its presence by signing contracts with the historic Blaisdell Hotel and 1132 Bishop Street Building. The latter will house the Frear Center, a new $1 million computer center primarily paid for by a $600,000 donation from the Frear Eleemosynary Trust.

In announcing the moves, HPU vice president E. Rick Stepien praised the efforts of the Fort Street Mall Business Improvement District in revitalizing the mall, including new maintenance, safety and security measures.
