Advertiser Staff

JULIANO
Kahuku High School football, baseball and track standout Kyle Juliano will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship from AXA Advisors LLC at the school's athletic awards assembly today.

Juliano, who plans on playing football and baseball at Menlo (Atherton, Calif.) College, is one of 52 high school seniors from across the United States to receive the scholarship — one from each state, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. AXA is a financial services company with a local office in downtown Honolulu.

The scholarship is awarded to "students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement outside the classroom at a job, sport or extracurricular activity and an ability and determination to achieve in college and beyond."

Juliano was a second-team all-star defensive back in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Red Conference-East. He also was named a first-team All-OIA East center fielder in baseball and ran the 400-meter dash for the Red Raiders' track team.

Juliano also carries a 3.5 grade point average and has a class rank of 29 out of 271 seniors. He serves as a mentor for the Boys and Girls Club of Kahuku, tutoring fourth-graders 10 hours per week, and has worked as a summer fun counselor for the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Juliano also is an active member of New Hope Chapel in Kahuku and is interested in a career in social work.

Menlo, as an NCAA Division III athletic program, does not offer athletic scholarships.

Juliano is the son of Richard and Alison Juliano of Kahuku.
