Testing urged for hepatitis C

Healthcare professionals are encouraging people get tested for hepatitis C. Hepatitis C, the most common blood-borne infection in the United States, is a viral infection of the liver that can cause permanent damage, even liver failure. People who use needles to inject drugs are very susceptible. For confidential information about hepatitis C, call the Aloha United Way Help line at 211. The call is free.


Free lecture on lupus June 7

The Hawaii Lupus Foundation will present a free lecture June 7 on systemic lupus erythematosus from a naturopathic perspective. The speaker will be Dr. Thauna Abrin, who grew up on the North Shore. She has a private practice in Manoa specializing in family health. The session will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Richards Street YMCA, Room 205. Reservations are required by June 4 at 538-1522.
