Jennie Pleas of Lihu'e, Kaua'i, and Kimberly Kim of Hilo shot 6-over-par 78s yesterday at Wailua Golf Course on Kaua'i to tie for medalist honors and claim two of four qualifying berths for the 2003 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

The national tournament will be held June 17-22 at the Ocean Hammock Golf Club in Palm Coast, Fla.

Pleas, 17, and Kim, 11, will be joined by Hilo's Kira-Ann Murashige and Kapa'a's Meilin Poai from the Kaua'i-Big Island section. Murashige, 16, shot 79, while Poai, 26, shot 83 and won a two-hole playoff against Hilo's Whitney Ueno for the final berth.

Ueno is the first alternate and Christine Kim of Hilo, who shot 84, is the second alternate.
