• A former city director of finance and state highways division chief are among the seven-member board of directors of The Hawaii State Federal Credit Union for 2003: chairwoman, BEVERLY ING LEE, owner of Classic Travel, former police officer and state Department of Education administrator; vice chairman, ANDREW ENDO, retired Transportation Department, Airports Division, property manager; secretary, LOUISE AKAMINE, attorney; treasurer, TIT MUN CHUN, former state Department of Transportation, highways division chief; and directors, PETER LEONG, former city director of finance; AMY MOTOOKA, state Department of Transportation secretary, and DAVID SHIMABUKURO, of the state Employees' Retirement System.

JEFF CONNERS, former shipyard commander at Pearl Harbor, and the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility in Yokosuka, Japan, has been named port captain in the Maritime Operations Department of Young Brothers Ltd. and hawaiian Tug & Barge. The retired naval commander is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and holds engineering and master's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Young Brothers Ltd. provides interisland cargo service statewide. Hawaiian Tug & Barge provides contract towing service, ship assists, barge charters and related marine services.

Also promoted by the companies is MICHELE AZUMA LEE, from director of operations, systems and process, to director of planning. She has also served as terminal superintendent and personnel and labor relations specialist with Young Brothers, and as assistant director of human resources for the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii during its 1996 grand opening.

TERRY PEACOCK, former director of sales and service for Kapiolani HealthHawaii and former director of marketing for Kaiser Health Plan Inc., has been named marketing director of the new Kahala Nui retirement community. The $183 million, 393-unit project, under construction next to Star of the Sea Church and School in Kahala, is expected to be completed late next year. The 20-year sales and marketing industry veteran was most immediately business development director at Elyte Pacific ATM Services.

DAVID MARTIN has picked up regional managership for Morton's steakhouse Honolulu property, in additional to restaurants in Hong Kong and Singapore under his oversight. In addition, he will serve as general manager of the Ala Moana eatery, overseeing day-to-day operations, sales and marketing, development, staff and management training and financial accountability.

MARK NISHIMOTO has joined Kuakini Medical Center as laboratory manager, under contract from Diagnostic Laboratory Services. He has worked for the past 12 years as laboratory manager at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Kaua'i, and, before that, as director of laboratory services at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in California.

• CP Advertising, the full-service advertising arm of Communications Pacific, has named SCOTT KAWAMURA a senior designer. Kawamura comes to CP Advertising from Clutch Design, his own graphic design practice. He is also a graphic design lecturer at Honolulu Community College.

Also hired as an account executive at the firm is LAURA MARUYAMA, formerly at ADWorks.

MARY PAAHANA has been promoted to sales event manager/ sales manager (U.S. and international) for Aston Hotels & Resorts Hawaii. She will assist in managing wholesale U.S. and international accounts, coordinate Aston property familiarization tours, organize trade shows and manage special events. She was previously senior sales manager for Aston Hawai'i's Asia sales department.

• American Savings Bank has announced the promotions of ERNIE MUYANO and MARTIN TADLAS to assistant vice presidents; Muyano as Kalihi branch sales manager, Tadlas as Kane'ohe-Kahuhipa branch sales manager.

• First Hawaiian Bank has announced several officer promotions and appointments:

  • Officer promotions: KENNETH L. MILLER, to senior vice president and director of equity, Bishop Street Capital Management; MERO V. GIASOLLI, to assistant vice president and manager, Trust Investments Department; MARTHA A. LEE to assistant vice president and business banking officer, University Branch.
  • Officer appointments: JULIE L. HARA, to consumer loan officer, Consumer Service Center; and LINDA E. KAITA, to investment officer and manager, Trust Financial Management Department.
