Poisoning warning issued

Persistent rumors of people using chlorine or bleach to catch fish or other marine life has prompted a reminder from the state that fishing with poisonous substances is a felony punishable by more than a year in jail, a $10,000 fine or both.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources is asking anyone who knows of ocean poisoning to call the department's enforcement hotline at 587-0077.

Callers should give the location, type of vehicle or vessel being used and any license or ID number seen, along with a description of activities, the date and time, and description of suspect.

Consumer program slated

"Consumer Alert: Scams and Breach of Contracts," a free public informational session, will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Supreme Court courtroom, 417 S. King St.

Attendees also will learn how to file a complaint, what happens after a complaint is filed and other tips on how to avoid common consumer mistakes.
