Texas abortion foes are really stretching

Texas has approved a "Woman's right to choose" law. Sound misleading? It is.

In a spectacular leap of logic, the Lone Star State now requires physicians to warn women seeking abortions that they might get breast cancer.

Don't even think about it, Hawai'i.

For starters, there are no medical studies confirming a link between abortions and breast cancer. More than 100 of the world's leading cancer experts have studied the matter and concluded that having an abortion does not increase a risk of breast cancer.

Nonetheless, floating out there is a theory that breast cells might be vulnerable to cancer if hormones produced during a pregnancy don't develop.

If that's the kind of voodoo science this piece of legislation is based on, we can't wait to see what abortion foes will come up with next. This law is not about concern for women's health, but about throwing another hurdle in the face of a woman's right to a safe and legal abortion. It promotes fear and confusion, and that's irresponsible at best.
