Facility to be named after senators

Associated Press

A former Army hospital in Michigan is to be renamed tomorrow in honor of three current and former U.S. senators, including Sen. Dan Inouye.

The 100-year-old building known as Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., will be renamed the Hart-Dole-Inouye Federal Center.

Inouye, former Sen. Bob Dole and the late Sen. Phil Hart all were wounded Army officers who were treated at Percy Jones hospital following World War II.

Inouye, D-Hawai'i, lost his right arm during combat in World War II as a member of the mostly Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He was later awarded the Medal of Honor.

"I am humbled and honored to have this particular facility, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, named after me and my two distinguished colleagues," Inouye said in a statement. "I will always be indebted to the doctors, therapists and nurses at Percy Jones who provided me with excellent treatment and care."
