Wie still last in Korean golf

JEJU ISLAND, South Korea — Hawai'i teenager Michelle Wie shot a 6-over-par 78 today and remained last in the field of 69 after two rounds of the CJ Nine Bridges Classic.

Wie, 14, made four birdies today, but struggled to two double bogeys in her nines of 41-37. The Punahou School freshman from Honolulu is at 19-over 163 at The Club at Nine Bridges Course on the resort island of Jeju.

First-round leader Ahn Shi-Hyun, the 17-year-old 2003 South Korean rookie of the year, shot a 71 for a 136 total and a three-stroke lead over three LPGA Tour players.

Defending champion Se Ri Pak (70), Laura Davies (71), Catriona Matthew (72) and Grace Park (73) are tied at 139.

South Korea's Jeong Jang (68) and Soo-Yun Kang (71), and LPGA players Lorie Kane (69) and Marisa Baena (69) are four shots behind at 140.

"If I win this tournament, I plan to go to the United States to join the LPGA Tour," said Ahn, who opened the tournament with a course-record tying 65.

Wie, playing in her sixth LPGA tournament this year, offset a bogey-5 on the first hole with birdie at the par-5 third. But, she double bogeyed the fourth and sixth and bogeyed the ninth to make the turn at 41.

She bogeyed the first four holes on the back nine, but finished strong with birdies at the 14th, 15th and 18th.

The field features 50 LPGA Tour players competing for a $1.2 million purse.
