Punahou wins ILH water polo title in OT

Billy Brady scored his second goal of the match with 1 minute, 3 seconds remaining in overtime as Punahou defeated Iolani, 6-5, to give the Buffanblu their fourth straight Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys water polo championship yesterday at Kamehameha.

It was Punahou's 27th championship in 30 years.

Punahou's Ikaika Aki also scored two goals.

Punahou shut out Iolani in both overtime periods, which lasted three minutes apiece.

Pac-Five defeated Kamehameha, 14-5, in the third-place match.

SWIMMING

UH teams advance at Shootout: The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming teams advanced to the championship meet of the Big West Shootout yesterday in Irvine, Calif.

The men defeated Denver, 132-24, and Cal Poly, 151-16. They also lost to Washington, 94-59.

The Warriors were led by Andrew Affleck, who turned in an NCAA provisional time in the 1,650 freestyle in 15 minutes, 25.05 seconds.

The women defeated Cal Poly, 114-15, and Brigham Young, 101-27. Pacific didn't show up and forfeited its match to Hawai'i, 11-0.

The Rainbow Wahine were led by Nicole Mackey and Yan Chen, who both recorded NCAA provisional times.

Mackey won the 100 (55.95) and 200 (1:59.97) backstroke. Chen finished the 400 individual medley in 4:18.72.

Waimea 20, Kaua'i 13: Waimea (4-2) scored the first 20 points and held off Kaua'i (5-1) in a Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation game last night at Vidinha Stadium.
