MASAICHI TASAKA, retired president of Kuakini Health System, and DR. THOMAS AU, medical director of the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, are among newly elected officers of the board of directors of Lanakila Rehabilitation Center. Joining Tasaka, a 13-year board member, as chairman, and Au as secretary, are LINDA GILCHRIST, president of Island Insurance Companies, vice chairwoman; and PHYLLIS SHEA, president of Shea & Co. CPAs Inc., as treasurer. Lanakila works with those with physical, cognitive or age-related challenges.

• Kuakini Health System has named DR. NOBUYUKI MIKI vice president of medical affairs, a liaison between the health system and the medical staff. He will oversee medical, surgical and geriatric education programs, as well as the hospital intensivist program, those physicians specializing in critical-care medicine. Miki will continue overseeing Kuakini's Executive Health Program and House Physician Program.

Also appointed was SYLVIA SHIMO-NISHI, as managing director, Clinical Support Services, responsible for Kuakini's pharmacies and laboratory, and overseeing coordination of the Computerized Physician Order entry project.

Kuakini also named QUIN OGAWA as controller, overseeing accounting and business services.

DENNIS FRANCIS, general manager of The Honolulu Advertiser, has been elected chairman of the board for Diamond Head Theatre. Other board officers include president, GARY KAI, general manager Hawai'i, HomeStreet Bank; vice presidents, HUGH C. DAMON, Grubb & Ellis/CBI vice president and WILLIAM DIXON; treasurer, GABRIEL LEE SR., vice president commercial markets, American Savings Bank; and secretary, SHARON WAGO.

Two new board of directors were also announced: GEORGE CHALEKIAN, executive creative director, Milici Valenti Ng Pack Advertising, and community volunteer, RAE McCORKLE SULTAN.

• Hawai'i kama'aina LENA MOSSMAN, who has directed the opening of the Mandara Spa at the Sheraton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa in French Polynesia and worked on plans for one on Tahiti and Bora Bora — as well as having served as operations manager of the one at Hilton Hawaiian Village — has been named director of the Spa Olakino Salon, slated to open this month at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort. The 6,000-square-foot spa will feature waterfalls, faux lava rock and incorporate Hawaiian-themed treatments.

FRED KENISON JR. has been named controller for Finance Insurance Co., overseeing accounting functions and compliance issues. He previously was with National Mortgage & Finance, and most recently, controller for specialty trade subcontractor, Acutron Co. Inc.

NELSON N.S. CHUN, partner in the Honolulu law firm of Cades Schutte LLP for the past 20 years, has been named vice president and general counsel for Alexander & Baldwin Inc. His practice areas include general business counseling, formation and structuring of business entities, real-estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and healthcare.
