Education reform panel schedules public meetings

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle's effort to decentralize the state's education system and put decision-making authority at the school level will get some public input this month.

Lingle's recently organized education reform committee will hold 10 two-hour public meetings, beginning Nov. 12 on Kaua'i and ending Nov. 25 on the Big Island.

The meetings will give the committee, known as Citizens Achieving Reform in Education (CARE), an opportunity to present its proposal and hear feedback from residents, according to a statement released by the governor's office.

The committee intends to use its findings from the meetings to refine the proposal before submitting reform recommendations to the governor for the upcoming legislative session.

The public is invited to attend the meetings, which will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Nov. 12: Lihu'e, Kaua'i; Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School
