WAILUKU, Maui — Two boys are dead and another was in critical condition from a collision between a car and bus Saturday morning near the pali lookout on Honoap'ilani Highway.

Keali'i Range, a 16-year-old Baldwin High School student, was pronounced dead at Maui Memorial Medical Center, said police Sgt. Barry Aoki. Police said Range was driving a Toyota sedan that crossed the center line and struck the bus.

Keo Kaauwai, 17, a former Baldwin student, died Sunday at Maui Memorial, Aoki said. Kaauwai was in the back seat of the Toyota.

Two other boys in the Toyota, both 17-year-old Baldwin students, were hospitalized at Maui Memorial. One was in critical condition and the other in stable condition, Aoki said.

The 58-year-old driver of the bus was treated at the scene. No one else was on the bus.

The deaths increased Maui’s traffic fatality count for the year to 13. There were 17 by this time last year.
