HPOWER plant runs at half speed

Advertiser Staff

Routine maintenance at the city’s HPOWER garbage-to-energy plant should be finished tomorrow, and the plant’s 1,800-degree furnaces are expected to be back to peak capacity around noon.

Since Friday, the plant has operated at 50 percent capacity while workers conducted scheduled maintenance on boilers, said Robert Webster, facility manager. He said the plant runs at 100 percent capacity for 90 percent of the year.

City refuse officials rerouted some of the rubbish deliveries from the HPOWER plant to the city landfill, he said.
