Two men arrested in fatal Pearl City shooting

Police arrested two men in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured in the parking lot of Longs Drug Store in Pearl City Saturday night.

The suspects, age 22 and 26, were arrested without incident at two separate Waipahu locations. Both were arrested on suspicion of murder, a police spokeswoman said.

Police said the shooting occurred after a group of men got into an argument at approximately 9:48 p.m. in front of Longs Drug Store, in the parking lot of the Pearl City Shopping Center.

Two men fired a total of seven shots, killing the passenger and severely injuring the driver of a white Honda.

The passenger, a 36-year-old 'Aiea resident, whose name has not yet been released, was shot four times in the head and back.

The driver of the car, a 24-year-old 'Aiea man, was shot three times in the shoulder, leg and arm as he tried to flee.

Three men involved in the shooting fled the scene.

A witness to the shooting said he and his wife had pulled into the parking lot at about 9:50 p.m. and noticed about five young men talking in the parking lot, near Kamehameha Highway. As he walked to Longs, the witness said he heard one of the men begin to scream: "Help me, help me, help me."

The witness said he heard a quick succession of shots immediately after the screams.

He saw one of the men jump into a red pickup truck and drive away. Two other men drove off in a car that may have been a Jetta, he said.

Police yesterday did not disclose any motive for the shooting.

Police are awaiting ballistics lab results to see if Saturday night's shooting is linked to the Oct. 26 murder of 49-year-old Greg Morishima, who was gunned down by three men at a Pamoho Place residence in 'Aiea.
