O'ahu programs for at-risk youths, the poor, elderly and homeless were awarded more than $17.8 million yesterday by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
"This funding is especially important because of the tight fiscal condition our city is facing," said Ben Lee, city managing director. "The moneys will be put to good use servicing those who need our help the most."
In all, the department awarded $17,828,996 to Honolulu. Among the recipients are:
- The Palolo Chinese Home ($1.93 million)
- Domestic Violence and Legal Hotline ($1.565 million)
- The Salvation Army ($756,000).
