Samsung markets MP3 player designed to be Napster-friendly
Napster is back. Only this time, instead of helping people download free music, the company's revised site is selling tunes at 99 cents a pop. It's also working with electronics manufacturers to create Napster-friendly devices. One such product is the Samsung Napster YP-910GS, a digital audio player with a 20-gigabyte drive that can hold 5,000 downloaded tunes. Equipped with a built-in FM transmitter, tuner and encoder, the device can play saved tracks through an FM radio and create MP3 files directly from FM radio. Accessories include a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, a remote control and a carrying case. The $400 player, on sale this month, includes 20 free downloads from Napster's digital library of more than 500,000 songs. Additional tunes downloaded through the Napster 2.0 service range from 99 cents a song to $9.95 per album. Subscription plans also are available.
