Earnings up 69% for French bank

BNP Paribas SA, France’s biggest bank by assets and parent of BancWest Corp. of which First Hawaiian Bank is a subsidiary, reported a 69 percent increase in third-quarter earnings as investments rebounded and profit at its securities business more than doubled.

Net income rose to 970 million euros ($1.11 billion) from 573 million euros a year earlier, spokesman Antoine Sire said. Profit before tax at the corporate and investment bank jumped to 499 million euros from 201 million euros, the Paris-based bank said.
