UH men's golf ties for first

The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a final-round 4-over 292 yesterday to finish in a tie with South Carolina for first place in the 17-team Turtle Bay Intercollegiate at the Palmer Course.

UH-Hilo finished 10th at 920 while UH B placed 12th at 928.

Junior Manararii Gauthier led UH to its first win of the season with 71—221, finishing in a tie for seventh. Senior Matt Kodama shot 73—222, finishing in a tie for ninth for his fifth top-10 finish of the season.

South Carolina's Robert Svensson won with 71—214. Coastal Carolina's Alvaro Velasco was one stroke behind after a 73.

• UH women in 11th: The University of Hawai'i women's golf team shot 315-309—624 yesterday and stood in 11th place in the 18-team Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course.

UH freshman Sara Odelius shot 74-76—150 to share 11th place. Freshman teammate Dale Gammie shot 75-76—151 to tie for 14th.

Washington's Paige McKenzie leads with a 1-under 143. Oklahoma leads after shooting 297-299—596.
