Kane'ohe man killed in crash

A 47-year-old Kane'ohe man killed in a car crash last night on the H-1 Freeway at the Kunia Road off-ramp was identified today as Mark K. Valdez.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said Valdez collapsed at the wheel of his 1984 Ford Bronco while driving west on the H-1 Freeway. The vehicle drifted from the center lane and struck the concrete median at 8:04 p.m.

Valdez and a 46-year-old 'Ewa Beach woman, who was the only other person in the Bronco, were taken to St. Francis-West. Valdez died in the emergency room at 9:02 p.m. The woman is in good condition, police said.

Police have tentatively classified the death as a traffic fatality pending autopsy results.

Collision injures man in Nanakuli

A 59-year-old man was injured early today in a collision in Nanakuli between a van and tractor-trailer.

Emergency Medical Services personnel said the man was taken by helicopter in serious condition to The Queen’s Medical Center. The collision at Farrington Highway and Helelua Street was reported at 4:08 a.m.

The Honolulu Fire Department cleaned up about 50 gallons of diesel fuel which had spilled onto the roadway.
