Ammo-detection kits delivered

Hilo-based Ho'olana Technologies has completed delivery of 50 kits to the Army designed to detect whether ammunition has exceeded its useful life.
The company, which is part of the for-profit arm of Alu Like Inc., also manufactured 800 resupply kits under a $1.2 million contract with the licensee of the technology, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Kevin Baptist, chairman of Alu Like Enterprises Inc., the parent of Ho'olana, said the company has received a follow-on $65,000 contract for the kits and is negotiating for another valued at $550,000.

Hawai'i Visitors & Convention Bureau yesterday named its Maile Award winners, organizations celebrating anniversaries of 25, 50, 75 and 100 years of serving Hawai'i. They are:
- 25 years: Kapalua Bay Hotel & Ocean Villas, Ironman Triathlon World Championship, Waikiki Community Center and Na Wahine O Ke Kai.
- 50 years: Iolani Sportswear.
- 75 years: Akina Aloha Tours.
- 100 years: Korean Centennial Committee, Soto Mission of Hawaii, E.K. Fernandez Shows and Daughters of Hawaii.
