Waipahu man charged with murder

A Waipahu man was charged with murder and two others with armed robbery of marijuana in connection with Saturday night's shooting in Pearl City.

Micah Keone Kanahele, 22, is accused of shooting two men — killing Guylan Nuuhiwa, who would have celebrated his 27th birthday Sunday, and wounding Winston Domingo, 24 — during a confrontation in the parking lot of Pearl City Shopping Center. In addition to second-degree murder and attempted first- and second-degree murder, Kanahele is charged with first-degree robbery, and eight firearm and two drug offenses.

Kanahele's bail totals $1 million.

Rosalino Bautista Ramos, 22, and Kevin A. Harris, 26, were each charged with first-degree robbery. Bail for each is $100,000.

The armed robbery counts against the three men involve taking of a bag containing marijuana, police said.

Nuuhiwa died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the city medical examiner's office. He was shot four times in the head and neck and was pronounced dead at Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi.

Domingo told a detective that while he ran from his car toward a gas station, he heard Harris yelling, "Micah, shoot 'em again," according to a police affidavit filed in court. Domingo is hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his shoulder, leg and arm.

Police, meanwhile, are planning to test two guns seized from warrant searches after Kanahele's arrest to determine if there is any connection between the Pearl City shooting and the Oct. 26 slaying of Greg Morishima at a Pamoho Place residence in 'Aiea.

Eight of the 14 charges against Kanahele are related to the Pearl City shooting.

The additional six counts — four for firearm violations and the two drug offenses — came after Kanahele's arrest on Tuesday. The drug counts stem from crystal methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe found in a warrant search of a nylon bag that was allegedly in Kanahele's possession when he was booked Tuesday.

Kanahele was convicted in April 2000 for multiple firearm offenses and sentenced to 100 hours of community service, one year in jail and five years' probation, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.

In the affidavit filed in District Court, homicide Det. Theodore Coons said Domingo told him that the two victims had gone to Pearl City Shopping Center to meet Kanahele.

Domingo was seated in the driver's seat when Kanahele, Ramos and Harris approached the parked car from the passenger side where Nuuhiwa was seated, the report said. An argument started "almost instantly" and Harris punched Nuuhiwa and opened the car door, according to the court document.

As Nuuhiwa started to get out of the car, Kanahele began shooting at him, the report said.
