Mililani hires Sato to coach baseball team

Advertiser Staff

Former Hawai'i Pacific University assistant Dean Sato has been named varsity baseball coach at Mililani High, athletic director Glenn Nitta said.

Sato succeeds Cary Kihara, who resigned after last season. Nitta said Kihara recently married and had other obligations. Kihara coached the past two seasons.

Before coaching at HPU last year, Sato was head coach at Saint Louis School.

Also, Nitta said that Scott DeSilva has been appointed girls' varsity basketball coach. DeSilva had previously served as an assistant in both the boys and girls programs at Farrington.

DeSilva replaces Kris Tamondong, who has decided to pursue other activities, Nitta said.

Radford seeks coach: Radford High is taking applications for a tennis coach for the boys and girls teams. For information, call athletic director Eddie Maruyama at 421-4229.

Heisman winners: Baldwin High's Jonathan James Eno and Seabury Hall's Tia Ferguson were named Hawai'i's winners of the Wendy's High School Heisman Award.

The award is given to high school seniors who have showed dedication to academics, extra curricular activities and their communities.

Eno (football, soccer and baseball) and Ferguson (cross country and track) are two of 102 state winners eligible for 12 national finalists honors.
