On your mark, get set ...

The Honolulu Advertiser's annual Jingle Bell Run begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at Sister Roberta Derby Park, next to the police station downtown. Entry fees postmarked by Nov. 28 are $25 for those 13 and older, $20 per person for groups of four or more, $10 for kids 12 and younger. After Nov. 28, fees are $30, $23 and $10.

Watch for entry blanks in The Advertiser or download the form at specialolympicshawaii.org. The run is a benefit for Special Olympics Hawaii. 943-8808, ext. 33.

CONCERT: Nov. 14

Air Supply — Australian-born Russell Hitchcock and Briton Graham Russell — brings its sweet love songs from the Decade of Greed to town. Known for such timeless love songs as "Even the Nights are Better," "All Out of Love" and "Lost in Love," the crooners enjoyed many top 5 hits since their formation in 1975. Tickets are $45 for upper level, $55 for middle level loge, $45-$65 for floor level risers and $65 for floor level seating.

CONCERT: Nov. 15

Broadway and contemporary music are showcased at "Dream a Little Dream," a concert featuring Kristian Lei, left, and other guest artists. Lei is best known for her striking vocals that landed her the role of Kim in "Miss Saigon" for a year in Germany. Since then, she has traveled the country to perform in concert. This concert is dedicated to special-education children. Tickets are $10 advance and $15 at the door. Sponsor tickets are $175, which includes reserved seating for 10, promotional placement and 10 Kristian Lei CDs.

CONCERT: Nov. 15

The luminous slack-key stylings of Makana, left, will light up the Hawai'i Theatre as he launches his new album "Ki ho'alu: Journey of Hawaiian Slack Key." The program includes favorites from his first releases, "Makana" and "Koi Au." Bill Tapia, legendary jazz 'ukulele star, joins in to help celebrate the new release. Also taking part is Tau Moe, the Samoa-born, La'ie-raised steel-guitar virtuoso who has toured the world. Tickets are $25 general, or $50 for VIPs, which includes premium seating, post-show reception and a signed Makana CD.

CONCERT: Nov. 15

Grammy award winner Dave Alvin will showcase his folksy blues artistry at his Hawai'i debut. The singer-songwriter-guitarist will appear with guitarist Rick Shea. Local guitar master Ledward Ka'apana also performs. Tickets: $25 at the door, or $20 in advance beginning Oct. 31.

The American rock 'n' roll phenomenon Little Feat, below, brings its "Peace Journey Tour" to Hawai'i. The seven-member band brings more than three decades of boogie, southern rock and blues to our doorstep, along with the Vince Esquire band. Tickets: $28 in advance and $35 at the gate. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Happy birthday, Wave Waikiki! The nightclub celebrates 23 years of wild nights and even wilder mornings as one of the hottest spots in town. Local alt rock band Missing Dave performs, along with other surprise guests from the Wave's colorful history. DJs spinning their sound include KSM, BTF, Alex, Sean G. and Tim B. Tickets are $10 before midnight, for 21 and older.

HOLIDAYS: Dec. 6

Honolulu City Lights will set downtown Honolulu aglow during its grand opening night with a parade, concert, tree exhibits and, of course, Santa Claus. Tree-lighting festivities begin at 6 p.m., with a ceremony hosted by Mayor Jeremy Harris. At 6:30 p.m., the Public Workers' Electric Light Parade will pass City Hall from its starting point at A'ala Park. Santa will come riding along with the parade at 7:30 p.m. to hear children's wish lists. Santa will be available for visits during the month of December, and Honolulu Hale will be open daily 8 a.m.-11 p.m. during December for viewing of the wreath and tree exhibits. Honolulu City Lights ends Jan. 4. Admission is free.

O Christmas tree! The 49th annual Festival of Trees sponsored by the Queen's Medical Center Auxiliary will be three days of Christmas fun with handmade gifts, art-collection items and miniature trees decorated by local personalities. The trees will be auctioned off during a silent auction fund-raiser with bidding closing at 2 p.m. Dec. 7. The event is a fund-raiser for the Queen's Auxiliary to purchase new neuroscience unit equipment. Admission is a $1 donation; children 12 and younger are free.

On the eve: Mark your calendars now. The Doobie Brothers reunite with Michael McDonald in a concert to ring in the new year in good old rock 'n' roll fashion, 10:15 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Blaisdell Arena. The event is pumped up further with these special guests: soul survivor Isaac Hayes, disco queen Gloria Gaynor, Atlanta songbird Candi Staton and Motown legends Martha Reeves and The Vandellas. It's a presentation by award-winning producer David Gest. Tickets — prices to be announced — are scheduled to go on sale from 9 a.m. Monday at Ticketmaster outlets. (877) 750-4400.

Youth encounter: The Brothers Cazimero headline "He Makana O Na Mele (The Gift of Music)," a Hawai'i Youth Symphony Association fund-raiser, Nov. 16 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. All that jazz: Although Jimmy Borges and Gabe Baltazar take the limelight, that Sunset Jazz, Etc. concert Nov. 23 on the lawn of La Pietra on the slopes of Diamond Head will mark the return of The Savoy Sisters, the trio composed of Shari Lynn, Rose Marie Barbee! and Annie MacLachlan. The Savoys originally were the Jive Sisters and specialize in swing-era favorites. Tickets: $30, include wine, dessert, coffee and soft drinks. Call 922-2744 or 924-7515.
