H-1 wreck victim identified

A 47-year-old Kane'ohe man killed in an auto crash Wednesday night on H-1 Freeway at the Kunia Road off-ramp has been identified as Mark K. Valdez.

Police said Valdez collapsed at the wheel of his 1984 Ford Bronco while driving west on H-1. The vehicle drifted from the center lane and struck the concrete median at 8:04 p.m.

Collision injures man in Nanakuli

A 59-year-old man was injured early yesterday in a collision between a van and a tractor-trailer in Nanakuli.

Emergency Medical Services personnel said the man was taken by helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.

The collision at Farrington Highway and Helelua Street was reported at 4:08 a.m.

School to start work on facility

Seagull Schools will break ground for its new $1.3 million Adult Day Services Center at 10 a.m. today at its Kapolei campus, 91-531 Farrington Highway.

The new center, expected to be completed in June, will allow Seagull Schools to double its daily enrollment to 50 seniors.

Seagull also plans to build campuses for children and seniors in 'Ewa Beach and at Ko Olina at an estimated cost of more than $7 million.

"The demand for these centers is so great in West O'ahu that we expect the facilities to be at capacity with keiki from the first day we open," said Chuck Larson, executive director of Seagull Schools.

The 'Ewa Beach and Ko Olina campuses will break ground in 2004 and be open for children in 2005.

Seagull uses programs designed for interaction between seniors and children.



Wai'anae group plans parade

The Wai'anae Military Civilian Advisory Counsel's annual veterans parade will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

The parade will start at Poka'i Bay Beach Park and continue to Ma'ili Beach Park, with a ho'olaule'a to follow.

Food, games and entertainment are scheduled, as well as arts and crafts booths and a keiki village. An awards ceremony also is scheduled.

WINDWARD

Stream Fair set in Kane'ohe

The Kane'ohe-Kahalu'u Vision Team will host a Stream Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Windward Mall's center court, highlighting a draft of a guidebook on stream restoration and maintenance that is being developed for the community.

The vision team is seeking comments about the book and the project.

State and city agencies, as well as community organizations, will be exhibiting their efforts in stream preservation, water quality improvements, and ahupua'a and resource management.
