Nagasako takes on world

Thumper Nagasako, 20, an inline vert athlete from Maui, leaves Saturday for his first World Championship as a professional in-line skater.

Nagasako, who ranks 13th in the world, will prepare for the event at the Camp Woodward training facility in Stallion Springs, Calif. The championship will be held Nov. 16 at the Los Angeles Fairgrounds.

RUNNING

• MADD dash: The 18th annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving Dash 5-kilometer run/walk will be held 3 p.m. Nov. 16.

The event starts and ends at the Civic Center grounds.

Between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., parking will be prohibited on the following streets:

• King Street, mauka side, from A'ala Park to Victoria Street;

• Victoria Street, 'ewa side;

• Beretania Street, makai side, from Victoria Street to A'ala Park.

Between 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., two lanes will be coned on this route for runners/walkers.

No parking barricades will be placed along the route Nov. 15.



Fishing tourney to help a friend

A one-day fishing tournament to raise money for the Jay Witten medical fund will be held at Hale'iwa Harbor at a date to be determined.

Witten's friends in the Kawailoa Surf Club are organizing the event for the commercial fisherman who is battling cancer.

The event starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. Entry fee is $150 per boat. All net proceeds (after insurance, security, food) will be donated to the Jay Witten Medical Fund.

A minimum of 20 entrants need to be signed up by Nov. 15 for the event to take place.
