Buddhism topic of lectures

"Contemporary American Buddhism: Its Impact and Prospects" is the topic of the free two-day Futaba Memorial lectures Friday and next Saturday at Honpa Hongwanji Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway.
Lecturers include John McRae, the Numata Visiting professor; and George Tanabe, professor of religion at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa; Roy Perrett, a UH professor of philosophy; Poranee Natadecha-Sponsel, a professor of religion and women studies at Chaminade; and Leslie Sponsel, a UH professor of anthropology.
Light lunch will be provided.

Church drive to aid women
The Woman's Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands in Hawai'i, a mission for the United Church of Christ, is embarking on its annual drive to create 400 bags of supplies for women in transition.
They are seeking people to help sew lunch-sized totes, as well as donations of toiletries and cosmetics, and feminine hygiene supplies. On Dec. 2, the bags will be assembled.
Donations are accepted at the WBM office at the Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ center, 15 Craigside Place.

'Tibet' film to open Friday
The producer of "Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion," the audience award winner at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, opens at the Art House at Restaurant Row on Friday, and producer Victoria Mudd, who won an Academy Award for "Broken Rainbow," will be available for a question-and-answer session after the 7:10 p.m. screening, at about 8:45 p.m.
