WASHINGTON — Here are some actions in Congress last week.

Key House votes

1. DNA testing

The House Wednesday passed, 357-67, a bill that would authorize grants to states to accelerate DNA testing and improve legal representation in capital cases. A "yea" vote was to pass the bill.

Hawai'i votes: Neil Abercrombie (D) YEA; Ed Case (D) YEA

2. Prison industries

The House Thursday passed, 350-65, a bill that would eliminate a competitive advantage given to prison factories seeking contracts with government agencies. A "yea" vote was to pass the bill.

Hawai'i votes: Neil Abercrombie (D) YEA; Ed Case (D) NAY



Key Senate votes

1. Pryor nomination

The Senate Thursday failed, 51-43, to close debate on the nomination of Bill Pryor to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. A "yea" vote was to close debate, but 60 votes were needed.

Hawai'i votes: Daniel Akaka (D) NAY; Dan Inouye (D) NAY
