EMME TOMIMBANG, executive producer and host of "Emme's Island Moments" and "Emme's Island Living," has been named the 2003 Filipino Woman of the Year by the Filipino Woman's Civic Club, in recognition of her professional achievements and community service.

GEORGE IRION, director of sales and marketing for AT&T Hawaii, has announced his retirement next month, after 25 years in the telecommunications industry, including more than 18 years with AT&T Hawai'i.

Irion joined AT&T in 1984 in California, where he was responsible for the design, implementation and deployment of AT&T customer service centers in Pleasanton, Calif., and Phoenix, Ariz. He moved the next year to Hawai'i, where he was responsible for a number of areas, including local service centers, market analysis, strategic planning, public relations, customer service, advertising, and such promotions as the AT&T Wildest Show in Town at Honolulu Zoo and the AT&T Dragon Boat Festival. In addition, he developed and taught a 20-hour telemarketing course at Kapi'olani Community College.

Meanwhile, AT&T Hawaii has promoted JILLIAN C. REYNOLDS to sales manager, working with team development leaders and approximately 200 customer sales associates. She has been an award-winning employee during her nine years with the company.

CORY MATSUMIYA, former director of finance for the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, has been named business controller for two Mandara Spa locations, on Maui and at Hilton Hawaiian Village. He will oversee all business and fiscal functions in Mandara's Hawai'i region.

Meanwhile, DONNA MAGALLONES was named human resources manager. Her duties will include employee counseling, hiring, employee training policies, job descriptions, employee benefits and payroll.

"COACH" TIM POWERS has signed on at Mauna Lani Resort as director of fitness services. His personalized fitness advice has been solicited by corporate clients such as Abbot Labs, Kimberly-Clark, Shell Oil and Nike; by college athletic teams, the National Football League, NASCAR and major league baseball teams; and by U.S. federal law enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Navy SEAL teams.

Powers will work out of the Mauna Lani Sports and Fitness Club on the Big Island's Kohala coast. He is known for individually designed programs for health and fitness, nutrition and wellness activities.

• Bank of Hawai'i has announced promotions of three senior vice presidents to executive vice president positions:

  • CINDY L. THOMAS was named executive vice president and director of marketing. On top of her responsibilities as manager of the strategic marketing group, she will oversee all of the marketing division, including advertising and collateral, client relations, client experience, promotions and events, and corporate communications.
  • DEAN Y. SHIGEMURA was promoted from senior vice president and treasurer to executive vice president and treasurer. Before joining Bank of Hawaii, he was vice president and financial analyst for The Shidler Group, and before that, project manager for Castle & Cooke Hawaii.
  • MARY A. WEISMAN was promoted from senior vice president and credit review manager to executive vice president and director of credit review.

KATHRYN NELSON has been named new associate vice president for major gifts of the University of Hawai'i Foundation. Last year she was named professional fund-raiser of the year by the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Nelson will manage the foundation's major gifts program, a team of 17 people who raise money for colleges and programs at the university's 10 campuses. She was most recently executive director of development for the Kapi'olani Health Foundation, where she was responsible for creating a major gifts program.
