Three separate mid-morning traffic accidents yesterday on O'ahu left three people dead.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. a white Toyota 4-Runner was broadsided at the intersection of Manua Street and Makaweo Avenue in Wahiawa, killing a 19-year-old woman who was a passenger in the SUV.

The SUV overturned after being hit by a Honda Accord, police said. The woman was lying in the street when Fire Department officials arrived, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Kenison Tejada.

The woman, who evidently was thrown from the vehicle, was taken in extremely critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center where she died.

About a half-hour later, an 85-year-old Kapolei man was hit trying to cross an access road at Tracks Beach Park near the Kahe Power Plant. The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he died. Other details were unavailable on that accident.

And just after 10 a.m. in Kane'ohe, a 67-year-old woman was killed when her white Volkswagen Golf collided with a city bus.

Three bus riders were taken to the hospital, Tejada said. The accident happened a quarter mile from the He'eia Kea Pier on Kamehameha Highway.

It took police, EMS and firefighters 10 minutes to extract the woman from the car, Honolulu Police Department Capt. Scott Mosher said. Mosher said the woman's car crossed the center line and hit the oncoming bus head-on.

The three deaths yesterday are the 71st, 72nd and 73rd traffic deaths on O'ahu this year, compared with 61 at this time last year.
