HONOLULU

NFL Charities offers grants

Aloha United Way has announced that Hawai'i nonprofits can apply for $100,000 in grants from NFL Charities. Through the Pro Bowl Grant Program, NFL Charities offers grants to organizations focusing on youth education and youth mentorship.

Hawai'i-based 501(c)(3) organizations interested in applying for the grants can download information on Aloha United Way's Web site at www.auw.org. Applications must be received by NFL Charities by Jan. 5.


Scenic Hawai'i meets this week

Eric Crispin, director of the city Department of Planning and Permitting, will discuss amendments to the primary urban center development plan at a meeting of Scenic Hawai'i at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hale Koa hotel's Banyan Garden Room.

Scenic Hawai'i is a preservation group formed "to protect the scenic and visual beauty of Hawai'i."

Lunch and parking will cost $17.

WINDWARD

Field trip going to Kualoa Ranch

The Windward Ahupua'a Alliance is hosting a field trip to Kualoa Ranch to study diversified agriculture and its contribution to O'ahu.

The event will run from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday beginning at Windward Community College. Slots for 48 people are available. Travel will be by bus. Cost is $5 and includes lunch, a snack and beverages. The tour will stop at Tropical Farms, the ranch store that sells Hawai'i-only products.

Tickets are available at the Kapa'a Quarry Road Holiday Store in Daiei, Kailua parking lot on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., or by mailing a request with a check to Windward Ahupua'a Alliance, P.O. Box 1013, Kailua, HI 96734. Include name, address, e-mail and phone contacts.
